A collection of factual flying stories from my personal recollections of the 1960s carrier Navy. Many are funny, some scary, and thers downright tragic. Some names have been changed.

My Favorite Navy Flying Stories John Allsup eBook

Not bad, you get 9 short stories in this ebook, all of which take place in the 1960's. Five stories are from the author's time in Navy flight training and the other four are from when the author was an F-8 Crusader driver.

I had my digital reader in portrait view with the font set to the smallest size and I counted 32 digital pages. This ebook also has no table of contents and no chapter numbers which allow you to jump instantly to the different stories, so you have to read it straight on through unless you make your own notes or highlights with the Kindle reader.

This title might've been better served as being part of a larger collection of stories, but it's still a good value for the cheap price and if you like flying stories you can't go wrong with it. By the way, if your thirst isn't quenched after reading this and you want more, there's a great book called "Supersonic Cowboys" which is a compilation of many Navy flying stories told by several F-8 Crusader pilots that I highly recommend.

My Favorite Navy Flying Stories John Allsup eBook Reviews

Its a shorter book of stories but I wish there had been more. I read a couple of them to my dad (a navy veteran from WWII era) and he laughed aloud. I have never been in the service but I appreciate all the people that serve our country - - and the ones that are good writers have some amazing stories to tell about their military service. Too bad it was a short book - - but I liked the ones included.
Awesome read. It is short but very well written. Excellent stories. If you like this, look up Pardo's push on the internet. I came across the story awhile back. One F-4 uses his canopy to push against the tail hook of another F-4 to get his fellow pilots out of a combat zone. ***** [...]
This was a great read. The stories were those that reminded me of many nights at the Officer's Club. If you really want to know the realities and the fun of Naval Aviation, sit back and enjoy the ride!
After reading the other reviews posted, I wasn't sure what to expect, but for $1.99 I decided to check it out myself. Yes it's short but that doesn't mean it isn't well worth the time and money. I was never in the military but I've heard many stories from two brothers who were, so this was very interesting and entertaining to me. If the writer has more stories up his sleeve, I would definitely encourage him to write Volume II.
For anyone interested in military aviation, this short tome bears a read. The author has an earthy and straightforward writing style which tallies with most of the Naval aviators I've met over the years. They all try to outdo each other with their tall tales of flying terror, but this book includes good pictures to bear out many of them. I enjoyed this book and wished for a few more stories after I finished it. Overall, a good job and one s left looking forward to Volume 2.
The stories contained in this book are on average, just that, average with a couple exceptions. When i bought this my hopes were high, as i love Naval Aviation History, but the letdown was kind of hard. My main complaint is that the author certainly could have gleaned a LOT more, maybe from other shipmates, or other sources. This book is entirely too short, hence my 1 star rating.
Yes, this is the equivalent of about 32 pages, so it's short. But it's also $1.99 -- how many times have you picked up a $4 to $6 magazine to just read one or two articles? The stories here are entertaining, and the writing style is such that you can imagine yourself sharing a pitcher of beer with Allsup in a pilot's bar as he tells them.

If you enjoy hearing aviation stories from the folks who lived them (personally, these are much more interesting to me than historian retellings), you'll find plenty here for your $1.99. Just hoping the author has been holding some stories in reserver for Volume 2!
